Emirates Aviation University
Master of Science in Aviation Safety
The Masters in Aviation Safety and Aviation Security MASAS programme is designed for students who wish to further their knowledge and experience of aviation safety or aviation security or both together. The areas of Aviation Safety or Aviation Security are closely related and the MSc Aviation Security / MSc Aviation Safety programmes contain five modules that are core to both and deal with common issues such as risk management, human factors, strategy, operations and planning. Fundamentally, however, safety relates to measures that are taken against the threat of an accident, while security refers to protection from threats motivated by hostility or malice. Each programme therefore contains three specialist modules that enable students to consider in depth the different areas of regulations and compliance, design, use of technologies and systems that are associated with these different perspectives. Further specialisation is achieved through the Project which is required to focus on a topic that is aligned with the specialist area. By completing five core and three specialised modules, plus a subject area Project, students may obtain an MSc in either Aviation Safety or Aviation Security. If they wish to obtain a second MSc in the alternate specialisation on top of the first award, learners may complete the three additional specialised modules plus a second Project in the other subject area.
